Vimy Ridge

I am at Vimy, Pas-de-Calais, France is the only battle in the one Canada was alone independent from Britain but at the end we needed the help from the British second company  after we were there in the battle we saw how the planners of the battle fail and make  the work for us harder  and a lot of us die those days. Lieutenant-General Sir Julian Byng, the Canadian Corps commander, ordered new tactics for the coming assault. Having learned from the Battle of the Somme, intense training better prepared soldiers for what they might find on the battlefield, and helped them to make quick decisions on their own that were still in keeping with the overall plan. Small units and individual soldiers were given much more information about the battle, and were expected to exercise initiative in keeping the advance moving, even if their officers were killed or wounded. It was hard to escape from all that chaos but some us survive and keep running till they came for us.

September 25 1916

I was sent to Thiepval France the Thiepval Ridge battle just started our corps and the British second corps are fighting against the German empire I have a good feeling about this battle we have a very big military power we had 230 heavy guns and howitzers and 570 field guns and howitzers. The attack on 27 September was a mixed success. On the right, the Canadians captured their limited objectives in the first attack. On the left, the 34th Brigade of the 11th Division suffered very heavy losses and failed to make any real progress. In comparison the 33rd brigade suffered 600 casualties; most of them wounded, and took most of their objectives. Over the remaining three days of the battle, the fighting raged around the Stuff and Schwaben Redoubts. At the end of the battle the British had reached the line of their final objective, but were unable to clear out the two redoubts. In the end they would fall during the battle of the Ancre Heights in early October.

August 13 1916

I am at London everyone is sacred of the war. And some people are mad at the government because they think the ear will be very hard and that they need the help from the USA. My friends from the British 5th Infantry Division are a very strong but they are also scared of the war. All the Canadians that where promised that they will be back at home for Christmas but when  we got here we realized that the war was just beginning and that the enemy is stronger than we think and it will last at least tree years.

Before War

My name is Martin Bol I was born in Vancouver BC Canada in 1894 my parents where British immigrants that came to Canada looking for a better economic situation when y was 19 years old and after I finish high school y joined the Canada army because I needed money and it sound like a very fun adventure. I train for two years in the pacific Canadian army but in 1914 the war started in Europe and the British ask Canada for help so they took us in a bus all across Canada to the Nova Scotia military base I was very scared but my parents wanted me to go because they loved Britain, and I wanted them to be proud if me.
